Partnership with From Now reinforces transparency and regulatory readiness

Greengage Solutions has announced a new partnership with sustainability specialists From Now to independently audit ECOsmart-certified properties, with the April 2026 rollout of third-party auditing.

The move marks a significant evolution of the ECOsmart certification programme, introducing third-party verification and making ECOsmart the first hospitality certification scheme to implement independent auditing ahead of incoming anti-greenwashing legislation.

It will ensure ECOsmart is compliant with the forthcoming EU Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive, enforceable from 27th September 2026, which is designed to prevent greenwashing and increase scrutiny on environmental claims.

The change supports ECOsmart’s alignment with the latest iteration of the Travalyst Certifications Initiative.

As scrutiny around environmental claims increases across hospitality, travel and events, certification schemes must demonstrate clear separation between assessment, verification and award. Greengage’s partnership with From Now introduces an additional layer of independent oversight within the ECOsmart certification process, strengthening governance and supporting confidence in the scheme.

ECOsmart has long provided a rigorous framework to help hotels, meetings and event venues, and businesses measure and improve their environmental performance. The addition of independent auditing enhances the programme’s robustness and ensures consistency and impartiality across certified properties.

Andrew Perolls, Greengage CEO, said: “This is about strengthening trust in ECOsmart and future-proofing our certification ahead of changes in legislation. Independent verification ensures ECOsmart continues to provide credible, transparent and meaningful recognition, and the partnership reflects Greengage’s ongoing commitment to raising standards in sustainability across the hospitality sector.”

Matilda Riley, From Now’s Lead Sustainability Consultant, concluded: “We’re excited that our partnership with Greengage will continue to provide ECOsmart properties and businesses with structured, independent audits when seeking certification or renewal. It supports changing sustainability legislation, including the EU Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive, while providing an added layer of assurance for venues, event organisers and corporate clients.”
