As a business, we have taken measures to act on our responsibilities, by making ongoing changes to how we do things as a hotel group.
Some may seem small, however, we believe that, every little thing we do matters. By aiming to decrease our environmental impact, especially through water and electricity consumption, and reducing our ecological footprint, we hope to be an example of how hospitality businesses can be run efficiently. Our efforts have been recognised through a recent independent ECOsmart audit of our properties and we are proud to have been awarded both gold and bronze awards.
Why is this a significant achievement? Because businesses these days are making greener choices, including where to stay and where to hold a meeting or event. An ECOsmart certification provides our customers with the reassurance that our properties have been comprehensively and independently assessed and operate in a sustainable way with a commitment to environmental sustainability. This independent certification adds credibility to our green initiatives and, also, helps us identify where we need to work harder to improve.
At the Clermont Hotel Group, our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) framework outlines how we manage risks and opportunities sustainability. It’s not all just about being ‘green’ and focusing on environmental factors, either. Social and Governance factors are a crucial part of sustainability, and our framework includes our social impact, as well as how we maintain stability and growth for our employees and stakeholders through our corporate policies.
The ECOsmart accreditation gives a hotel an opportunity to demonstrate their ECO credentials within the framework of The Global Sustainable Tourism Council. It looks carefully at Energy and Water Conservation; Waste Management & Recycling; eco-friendly Rooms & Facilities; sustainable Food & Beverage policies; And Corporate & Social Responsibility policies that support staff, customers, suppliers and the local area.

All our other Thistle hotels have been awarded the ECOsmart Bronze Award. This indicates that multiple steps have been taken to establish healthy practices in key areas across all five ECOsmart categories. Bronze venues are established in their sustainability journey and have a roadmap to add more improvements for 2023/24.
